Academics

Accreditation
Jubilee Christian Academy is approved by the State of Washington to operate as a private high school. After successful completion of all graduation requirements, students may earn a Washington State high school diploma.  Jubilee Academy is proud to announce that we have received provisional accreditation from N.A.A.S. and will enter self-study this coming winter 2009 to complete the process for full accreditation.

Academic Testing and Evaluations
Upon intake, students are assessed in reading and math to determine initial placement in high school courses. These include the Test of Silent Word Reading Fluency (TOSWRF), the Degrees of Reading Power (DPR) test for reading comprehension, and an Algebra Readiness Quick Test (ARQT). Results from these tests and consideration of the student’s entire academic career are used to determine the student’s mastery level of the skills assessed.

After a thirty-day evaluation period, students are then assessed using the NWEA’s Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test. Feedback from teachers, counselors, and all test results are used to develop the student’s individual learning plan (SLCTP), which includes academic and personal goals.

Final placement in high school classes is also determined at that time. Follow up is conducted every three weeks with each student to measure academic and personal growth and to evaluate appropriateness of the student’s individualized program.

Feedback is continually received from all teachers, advisors, and staff and used to maintain current, relevant case management. Jubilee also utilizes personality and learning-style inventories to help lend appropriate support to students.

Classroom Environment and Teaching
Jubilee Christian Academy students enjoy frequent 1-to-1 interaction with their teachers who implement every student’s academic plan, designing lesson outlines with specific needs of students in mind. Because placement in high school courses at Jubilee is based on mastery level, students will receive instruction in areas relevant to their current needs and given lessons that scaffold to maximize their learning potential.

During the assessment phase of their intake, students are given personality and learning-style assessments which are used in the classroom as a means of building positive, affirming relationships within the learning environment and strong self-efficacy. Students learn to become aware of their own strengths in academics as well as social interactions and are given daily opportunities to practice and internalize these skills.

Jubilee teachers make it their priority to teach not only subject areas, but social and behavioral skills necessary for healthy, functional living and success within the economic, civic, and relational areas of their students’ lives.

Computer Based Curriculum
Jubilee Christian Academy offers students the opportunity to learn within a high-tech environment that utilizes computer-based instruction to deliver high caliber education to students who require customized course work to assist them with excelling in their academic endeavors.  Further, teachers integrate 1 to 1, small groups, and entire-class projects to solidify concepts and bring relevance to academic areas.

With the flexibility of competency-based learning, students are also able to take advantage of credit-recovery opportunities that allow them to successfully complete high school and earn a high school diploma.

GED
Jubilee Christian Academy endeavors to advocate the success of all students, whether they seek to earn a high school diploma or a GED. When it is determined that a traditional high school education track is not feasible for a student, Jubilee offers GED-Prep, a track specifically designed for students who wish to obtain a GED. Utilizing the Novel/STARS web-based instructional program, students may learn skills specific to successful mastery of the GED.

Upon completing the GED-Prep track, students are given official permission from Jubilee to sit for the GED at one of the local, state certified testing sites.

College and Career Transitioning
Jubilee now provides uniquely >>>> College and Career Transition (CCT) planning for all enrolled students. Offerings include academic assessment utilizing NWEA’s Measures of Academic Program (MAP), ASVAB Career Exploration testing, and a comprehensive assortment of interest, skill, and values surveys that support students in college and career preparation.

Students in their senior year enjoy 1 to 1 assistance from our graduation coach who provides advising for college application completion and submission. Students can find help for researching colleges and technical or vocational schools and for applying for scholarships. Further, all students, regardless of their class year, meet regularly with their guidance counselor to develop and track their matriculation goals.

Finally, Jubilee offers portfolio initiation using the Washington Occupational Information System (WOIS) which provides all students with an educational planner, a tracking feature to log work and community experience, assessment results, and resume and cover letter assistance and management. Further, WOIS provides students access to occupational profiles that are linked to schools state-wide and a feature that saves data of interest to students’ portfolios.
